JapanJapan Airlines Will Treat 100,000 Foreigners To Free Flights…To Mystery Locations

Japan Airlines, also known as (JAL), is one of the major airline companies in Japan, along with All Nippon Airways (ANA). JAL is planning a special promotion for the summer of 2020, that will finish at the end of September. In it, JAL will give out 100,000 free round-trip airline tickets to foreigners visiting Japan for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The tickets are for domestic side trips so that foreign tourists already in Japan can travel to another location in Japan, then back to where they started (in Japan), but they cannot choose where they will go, so…where will they go? It is a mystery!

The move is an effort to boost foreign tourism to some of the less-traveled parts of Japan. Foreign tourists get on the plane at Tokyo Haneda Airport, Osaka Kansai International Airport, or Hokkaidō’s New Chitose Airport. However, where they go next is decided secretly by JAL. Will they end up in the desert-like sand dunes of Tottori Prefecture? Will they arrive in nearly-tropical Okinawa? Or will they end up on the remote Chichijima Island in the Ogasawara Island chain? There is no way for them to know until their trips begin!

Applications for these tickets begin in February. In order to qualify, an applicant must be a non-Japanese member of JAL mileage club.

The flights will operate from the beginning of July until the end of September. This fully encloses the period during which the Olympics will take place, which is from July 24-August 9, 2020.
