Keichii Ishii, Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Government of Japan, has been selected as the 2019 winner of the WTTC Global Champions Award by the World Travel Tourism Council (WTTC), a private non-profit organization comprised of top global tourism-related companies. The award ceremony was held on April 3rd in Sevilla, Spain, as part of the WTTC Global Summit.

 Japan has been highly regarded for its leadership in disaster prevention and crisis management system, as well as for its resilience in regards to the increasing number of foreign tourists and residents. The award ceremony was attended by the Deputy Ministers of the Tourism Bureau.

 Japan’s WTTC members are six companies: JTB, JR East, ANA, JAL, Seibu Holdings and JCB. In 2012, WTTC Global Summit was held in Tokyo and Sendai and was a place of appeal for reconstruction following the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami.

 This year’s WTTC Global Summit was attended by approximately 1,800 people, including members of international organizations and government officials. Former President of the United States, Barack Obama, was also on stage.
